Who are the Wandjina?

The only place you can find the Wandjina is the Kimberley region in Northeast Australia. The Wandjina beings brought law, culture, and language to the Mowanjum people. The Wandjina are often painted with older images of Gwion Gwion known as Bradshaw figures. The Characteristics of the Wandjina
A Wandjina depicted with only the head and shoulders is said to be moving across the sky like a cloud or storm. A Wandjina depicted with the full body is believed to be walking the Earth.
Wandjinas are anthropomorphic in form, “a being or thing not human, especially to a deity”, approximately 19 feet tall. Some paintings show only the face, while others show the entire body with the face and head emphasized. Their heads are adorned with a halo-like ring or helmet with large eyes. The halo may have lines emanating from it, minus a mouth, although the nose is always present. Various dotted or dashed patterns cover the body, as well as bands around the waist and arms.
The paintings also have nature characteristics such as the clouds representing Wandjina spirits in the form of clouds.
