A 14-foot centuries-old linen cloth bearing the image of a faint, yellowed, naked man who appears to have suffered extreme physical trauma in a manner consistent with crucifixion. The Shroud is kept in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. Millions of people worldwide believe it is the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth
Hundreds of thousands of hours have been devoted to studying the Shroud in detail and conducting intensive research. There is no concrete explanation as of yet on exactly how or why the image exists. The earliest historical records of the shroud are in the 1350s in Lirey, France, when a French knight named Geoffroi de Charny allegedly presented it as Jesus’ authentic burial shroud.
