In 1948, there was a noticeable increase in UFO sightings in the United States as more and more people began to report seeing mysterious objects in the sky. The U.S. Air Force enlisted astronomer J. Allen Hynek resulting in the birth of Project Sign and Project Grudge. In 1952, Project Grudge was converted into Project Blue Book (1952–1969).
As a result, the close encounters were classified according to their differences and categorized into five major categories: Close Encounters of the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth kinds.

Close encounter of the first kind: A human witnesses a UFO in the sky and it leaves no evidence.
The Second Kind

Close encounter of the third kind: A human can visibly see the beings or occupants in the UFO.
